Hi! My name is Molly — I am the FASNY Museum of Firefighting’s resident Dalmatian, as well as a trained and certified therapy dog. I’m named after Molly Williams, one of New York state’s very first female firefighters, who served in the early 1800s.
I help keep an eye on things at the Museum, and I love to meet the Museum’s many visitors whenever I have the chance. Dalmatians and firefighting go together like red lights and sirens — we were chosen by fire companies back in the horse-drawn days because we get along well with horses. Back then, a Dalmatian would run ahead of the horses to clear the way for them on their way to a fire scene. Today, we still serve as elegant, loyal and energetic mascots and community ambassadors for hundreds of fire companies.
